Health students from Mwanza, Dodoma, and Dar es Salaam have launched a nationwide initiative aimed at providing youth-friendly education to primary and secondary school pupils, as well as special youth groups, to foster a generation that is both physically and mentally healthy.
The programme was unveiled during a technical meeting in Dodoma, which brought together experts from key government ministries and the non-governmental organisation TAMIDA Initiative.
Godson Madeha, Assistant Chairperson of TAMIDA Initiative, highlighted that a significant gap exists in youth access to accurate information on mental health, reproductive health, and nutrition.
“Through this initiative, we aim to ensure that young people receive timely and reliable information, delivered in a friendly and accessible way, so they can make informed decisions about their lives,” Madeha said.
He added that collaboration with the government will help reach more young people nationwide, addressing mental health challenges and improving awareness on reproductive health.
Loveness Kimaro, Executive Director of TAMIDA Initiative, said the programme is designed to empower youth with knowledge and decision-making skills that can shape their overall well-being.
“Our goal is to nurture a generation that is informed and capable of taking charge of their health and life choices. Early access to correct information provides a strong foundation to face future health and social challenges,” Kimaro explained.
The programme also emphasises active youth participation in learning processes, which Kimaro said enhances understanding, self-confidence, and resilience against challenges such as stress and poor nutrition.
Speaking at the event, TAMIDA Initiative’s nutrition specialist, Husna Boniphace, stressed the role of proper nutrition in youth development.
“Good nutrition is the cornerstone of health. Young people must understand what they eat, how much they need, and why it matters. This knowledge helps build healthy bodies, supports learning, and strengthens productivity,” Boniphace said.
The initiative represents a new approach to engaging youth directly, bridging the knowledge gap, and fostering a generation capable of making informed life choices.
Implemented in partnership with the government through the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, and the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), the programme is coordinated by TAMIDA Initiative, which was established in 2024.
The initiative aims to provide young people with accurate, youth-friendly information tailored to their real-life needs, contributing to a healthier, more informed future generation.
