Vijana Queens have officially launched preparations for the 2026 season of the Dar es Salaam Basketball League (BDL), determined to overcome challenges that affected their performance in previous campaigns.
The team began intensive training on January 4, 2026, with a clear focus on improvement and excellence.
Head Coach Kablola Shomari, widely known as "KB," said the team is ready for the upcoming competitions following a thorough preparation program.
“We started early training on January 4 to address the weaknesses that held us back in the last two seasons. Our squad is now fully prepared and focused on making a strong impact in BDL 2026,” KB said.
Technical Director and Player Registration Officer Bahati Mgunda emphasized the club’s commitment to long-term talent development.
“At Vijana Basketball Club, we continuously invest in identifying and nurturing new talent. This program ensures that our technical team is confident in the readiness of all our squads for the 2026 season,” Mgunda said.
He added that all Vijana teams, including VBQ and City Queens, have been fully prepared for the entire season’s competitions and calendar.
Coach Cornell Woisso, who has been instrumental in developing young players, highlighted his focus on coaching beyond just competition.
“I thank God for this opportunity. Currently, I dedicate 70 percent of my time to training, mentoring, and discovering new talent in basketball,” Woisso said.
Woisso also expressed pride in the progress of players he has nurtured, including Fotius Ngaiza, Ally, Mayunga Leonard Andrea, Salma Zuberi, Hadija Mohamed Musa, and others who are making their mark in the league.
As Vijana Queens enter the 2026 season, expectations are high for the team to perform strongly and maintain their prominence in Tanzania’s women’s basketball scene.
