The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has reaffirmed its commitment to simplifying customs procedures and modernising tax payment systems to make trade faster and more efficient for businesses.
On March 23, 2026, TRA Commissioner General Yusuph Juma Mwenda met with leaders from the Tanzania Freight Forwarders Association (TAFFA), the Tanzania Customs Agents Association (TACAS), and executives from Capital Pay Tanzania to discuss ways of improving customs services and ensuring smoother trade operations.
During the meeting, Mr. Mwenda emphasized that TRA is dedicated to facilitating business by simplifying tax payment systems and speeding up cargo clearance at ports.
He explained that easier and more transparent processes will encourage voluntary tax compliance and reduce delays, ultimately benefiting traders, clearing agents, and consumers alike.
Capital Pay Tanzania, in collaboration with TAFFA and TACAS, presented a new digital system designed to streamline customs operations further.
The platform aims to simplify payments and improve efficiency in processing customs transactions, making it easier for businesses to meet their obligations without unnecessary complications.
Mr. Mwenda welcomed the initiative, noting that TRA is ready to support innovative solutions that help simplify trade and strengthen tax administration.
He highlighted that modern, technology-driven systems are essential to creating a transparent, business-friendly environment that boosts both compliance and government revenue.
This engagement reflects TRA’s ongoing collaboration with stakeholders in the logistics and trade sectors to ensure customs operations evolve in line with Tanzania’s growing trade demands.
By embracing digital solutions and modern practices, the Authority aims to enhance competitiveness, support economic growth, and make trade more efficient for everyone involved.
