Tanzania and Austria have signed agreements to implement strategic development projects worth €30 million (approximately TZS 85 billion), focusing on education, security, and technical skills, as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Deputy Minister of Finance, Eng. Mshamu Munde, said the initiatives underscore Austria’s long-standing support for Tanzania through concessional loans that directly improve citizens’ lives.
“Austria has been a reliable partner in funding projects that enhance education, technical skills, and safety. These initiatives reflect our shared commitment to sustainable development,” he said during talks with an Austrian delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Ambassador Dr. Hannah Liko.
Among the projects are the renovation and modernization of the Karume Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) in Zanzibar, improvements to the islands’ education system, refurbishment of the Arusha Technical College (ATC), and the provision of fire trucks and rescue equipment in Zanzibar.
Eng. Munde conveyed President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s gratitude to Austria, describing the country as a trusted development partner and reaffirming Tanzania’s readiness to deepen collaboration for socio-economic growth.
Ambassador Dr. Liko praised the strong partnership and pledged Austria’s continued support in tourism and industrial development to boost mutual economic benefits.
Both sides also discussed Austria’s 2026–2029 Africa Strategy, which focuses on strengthening peace and security, promoting a green economy, tackling irregular migration while enhancing legal migration systems, and advancing science and education.
The agreements mark a significant step in Tanzania’s development journey as the country transitions from the Vision 2025 framework toward long-term plans under Vision 2050.
