The government, through the National Sports Council (NSC), is intensifying efforts to create an enabling environment for women to actively participate in sports and sports leadership, advancing gender equality and the overall development of the sector.

Speaking on EFM radio today, NSC Executive Secretary Ms. Neema Msitha underscored the need to recognize and celebrate the contributions of women in Tanzanian sports.

She highlighted that women have been instrumental in promoting and sustaining sports in the country, serving as athletes, leaders of associations and clubs, and key stakeholders supporting sector growth.

On preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ms. Msitha confirmed that Tanzania, in collaboration with partner countries, is undertaking comprehensive initiatives to ensure a successful tournament.

She emphasized that these efforts include upgrading sports infrastructure, strengthening stakeholder engagement, and mobilizing citizens to support government initiatives for the continental event.

Ms. Msitha urged Tanzanians to continue backing the development of sports while valuing the critical role of women, whose contributions remain central to the sector’s success.
