Residents of Kongoro Ward in Mbarali District, Mbeya Region, have welcomed a TZS 40 million contribution from the District Executive Director (DED), Raymond Mweli, towards the construction of a local health centre, saying it will significantly reduce the long distances they currently travel to access medical care.
The announcement followed Mweli’s visit on March 5, 2026, to inspect ongoing development projects in the area.
During the tour, he personally handed over the funds for the health centre and held a public meeting to hear directly from the community about their challenges and development priorities.
Community members, including local elders, praised Mweli’s proactive approach, noting that his presence and engagement brought hope and reassurance.
“It is encouraging to see our leaders listening and taking action on issues that affect our daily lives,” one elder said.
Mweli urged local government officials to ensure that the health centre, along with other community-led projects, is completed without delay.
“Through our annual budgets, the council will continue to prioritise the completion of small-scale projects that bring essential services closer to residents,” he emphasized.
In addition, Mweli directed the District Education Officer to address outstanding claims on teachers’ leave allowances, following a request from Jakaya Primary School.
He also called for an assessment of schools in Shikizi to improve infrastructure and facilitate the deployment of teachers where needed.
Residents expressed optimism that these initiatives would improve access to health and education services in the area, while also strengthening trust between the community and local government leadership.
