CCM and FRELIMO join forces to engage youth on Tanzania–Mozambique ties

Tanzania’s ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), and Mozambique’s FRELIMO have agreed to actively involve youth in understanding the historical and political ties between the two parties, while promoting economic empowerment for citizens of both countries.

The agreement was reached during a meeting at CCM’s Lumumba office in Dar es Salaam on March 6, 2026, between CCM Mainland Vice-Chairman Stephen Wasira and FRELIMO Secretary-General Shakil Aboobacar.

Wasira emphasized the importance of youth engagement, noting that 65 percent of the population in Tanzania and Mozambique are young people who may not fully appreciate the historical struggles and cooperation that shaped the nations.

“CCM and FRELIMO must stand together to defend our countries’ interests and ensure that youth play a central role in national development. That is the key point we agreed on,” said Wasira.

He added that CCM Chairperson and President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, has established a dedicated ministry to address youth challenges and safeguard their interests.

“We have agreed to engage young people not only by providing employment education but also by equipping them with skills to become self-reliant and entrepreneurial through science and technology,” Wasira said.

Highlighting the deep historical ties, Wasira noted that the Tanzania–Mozambique relationship was forged at great cost.

“Our bond with Mozambique was built through sacrifices and bloodshed. If any relationship could be described as golden, ours is written in blood because we stood together through the most difficult times,” he said.

The parties also agreed to create more employment opportunities, especially for young people who, after completing education through schools and universities established by the parties, require support to establish independent livelihoods.

This collaboration aims to strengthen youth participation in development while ensuring citizens of both countries enjoy greater economic independence and opportunities.
