A delegation from the Zanzibar Forestry Department has arrived at the Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS) headquarters in Dodoma for a five-day training program in Manyoni District, Singida, aimed at learning modern beekeeping techniques.

Led by the department’s Director, Said Juma Ali, the team of five senior officers will be in the country from February 11 to 15.

The visit seeks to enhance professional skills and hands-on experience in sustainable beekeeping, establishing Bee Reserves, and developing Apitourism.

Speaking upon arrival, Director Ali said Zanzibar plans to introduce beekeeping tourism, a beekeeping classroom farm, and specialized bee reserves, emphasizing the importance of learning from TFS’s experience.

“Our goal is to strengthen expertise in beekeeping, a move that will boost community incomes and support biodiversity conservation,” he said.

During the visit, the delegation will observe TFS Manyoni’s beekeeping classroom farm, modern honey production systems, and management of bee areas that contribute to forest and natural resource conservation.

TFS Senior Assistant Commissioner for Conservation and Bee Resources Manager, Hussein Msuya, said the agency will continue to provide training and collaborate with institutions to promote beekeeping and the sustainable use of bee resources in Tanzania.

He added that such partnerships are part of national efforts to make beekeeping a source of employment, income, and a tool to combat the impacts of climate change.
