The Fisheries Resources Management and Aquaculture Development Project (TASFAM) is set to play a key role in advancing Tanzania’s national development goals, particularly in boosting the fisheries sector.
Speaking today (19.02.2026) in Dar es Salaam during a working session with project staff and senior fisheries officials, Acting Secretary-General of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Prof. Mohammed Sheikh, emphasized that the project must deliver tangible benefits, especially for youth and women engaged in the sector.
Prof. Sheikh, who also serves as Deputy Secretary-General for the fisheries sector, noted that President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has issued multiple directives aimed at strengthening fisheries, which must be implemented to achieve sector growth and economic development.
“The TASFAM project is a major initiative with the potential to transform the lives of Tanzanians, particularly small-scale fishers,” Prof. Sheikh said. “Staff must dedicate adequate time for preparation and implement practical, well-planned strategies.”
He also called for professional management of resources, skills, and time to meet leadership expectations and contribute meaningfully to the blue economy and the wider fisheries sector.
During the session, participants shared ideas on how different departments and institutions can actively support TASFAM to ensure the project delivers positive outcomes for the nation.
