Tanzanian football teams have been urged to prioritize stability among their players and coaches to build stronger, more competitive squads capable of sustaining success in international competitions.
Salum Madadi, Director of Competitions at the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), offered the advice during an interview with The Respondent Online following the early exits of Tanzanian clubs from major continental tournaments.
Madadi stressed that unity and cohesion within teams are critical for long-term success. “The biggest challenge holding us back is the frequent changes of coaches and players. This forces teams to start over every time when building their squads,” he said.
He further noted that teams should begin preparations early for upcoming competitions, using lessons from this season as a springboard for improvement.
“The experience gained this season should serve as a catalyst for better performance in the future,” Madadi added.
In the recently concluded season, Tanzania had four representatives in international tournaments. The CAF Champions League featured Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga) and Simba Sports Club, while Azam FC and Singida Black Stars competed in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Despite their efforts, all four teams were eliminated at the group stage, highlighting the urgent need for strategic planning and continuity.
Madadi’s advice underscores the importance of patience and long-term planning in Tanzanian football if the country hopes to become a consistent contender on the continental stage.
