The National Sports Council (NSC) has been directed to convene a joint meeting with leaders of sports associations and federations to assess strategies for boosting Tanzania’s performance in international competitions.
The directive came from the Minister of Information, Culture, and Sports, Paul Makonda, during the signing ceremony of the new Head Coach for the national football team, Taifa Stars, held at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium yesterday.
Minister Makonda emphasized that the aim is to ensure all sports in the country progress and achieve international success, following the example set by football.
“I am instructing NSC to meet with associations and federations, evaluate our challenges, and determine why we often return from international competitions without trophies, despite our abundant talent,” Makonda said.
He added that the achievements in football should inspire growth in other sports, including netball, volleyball, and basketball.
“We want to celebrate football successes, but we also hope to witness other sports proudly flying the national flag and bringing home trophies,” the Minister concluded.
