Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) has issued a public advisory urging visitors and tour guides to exercise heightened caution when travelling within national parks following persistent heavy rains in several parts of the country.
In a statement released on Wednesday, TANAPA’s Assistant Conservation Commissioner for Communications, Ms Catherine Mbena, warned that the ongoing rains have affected road conditions in some protected areas, increasing the risk of accidents and vehicle damage.
The advisory places particular emphasis on Serengeti National Park and other parks where slippery roads and flooding have been reported.
TANAPA said the warning is aimed at safeguarding tourists, tour operators and park staff during the current rainy season, when access roads and bridges may be temporarily compromised.
“At this time of heavy rainfall, all drivers especially tour guides are advised to take extra care when navigating park roads to avoid accidents and mechanical damage,” the statement noted.
The authority added that it is continuing with efforts to strengthen and maintain critical infrastructure, including roads and bridges, to ensure parks remain accessible and safe for visitors despite adverse weather conditions.
TANAPA also urged visitors facing any challenges or emergencies while inside the parks to immediately contact relevant park management offices for assistance.
The conservation agency emphasized that adherence to safety guidelines by all park users is essential to sustaining tourism activities while protecting lives and property during the rainy season.
