Singida Region has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s national clean cooking energy strategy, which aims for 80 percent of households to move away from firewood and charcoal by 2034.
Speaking on February 23, 2026, after meeting experts from the Rural Energy Agency (REA) introducing subsidized improved cookstoves, Singida Regional Commissioner Halima Dendego praised President Samia as a leader in clean energy implementation.
He said Singida is ready to begin distributing the cookstoves across all districts, targeting significant adoption by 2030.
RC Dendego added that more than 18,000 gas cylinders have already been distributed to residents to eliminate the use of dirty cooking fuels.
REA Engineer Raya Majallah explained that 200,000 highly efficient improved cookstoves will be sold at subsidized prices to reduce firewood and charcoal consumption and cut smoke emissions.
The project, signed on May 9, 2025, will run for 15 months, costing TZS 340.3 million for Singida. REA will cover 85 percent of the cost, while residents contribute the remaining 15 percent.
The project is part of the government’s wider effort to improve public health, protect the environment, and promote sustainable development, with Singida set to become a national model for clean energy adoption.
