The Deputy Minister of Energy, Mhe. Salome Makamba, has called on the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) and the Rural Energy Agency (REA) to ensure that all customers who pay for electricity are connected without delay, allowing them to use power for social and economic activities.
Mhe. Salome made the remarks on February 23, 2026, while switching on electricity in Bugofuma hamlet, Ngeleka Village, Misungwi District, Mwanza Region.
The project, implemented by TANESCO at a cost of TZS 174 million, is expected to benefit 171 households initially.
“We have instructed REA and TANESCO that anyone who pays today should be connected within three to four days. Here in Bugofuma, TANESCO is already implementing this order. Of the 35 residents who paid yesterday, 22 have already received electricity,” he said.
The Deputy Minister said the fast connections are part of the National Energy Compact 2025–2030, which aims to achieve 100% electricity access in rural and urban areas, and increase household connections to 75%.
He praised President Mhe. Dkt. Samia Suluhu Hassan for her strong leadership, which seeks to ensure that all hamlets in the country have reliable and affordable electricity by 2030.
Mhe. Salome also announced that all households in Bugofuma will be fitted with smart meters, enabling residents to purchase electricity from anywhere without manually entering token numbers, as was previously required.
He directed TANESCO and REA to extend electricity to key public institutions such as schools, health centers, police posts, and markets, while promoting clean cooking energy.
He also urged the Misungwi District Council to improve market and bus stop areas to allow for the installation of modern clean cooking infrastructure.
Misungwi MP, Mhe. Silvery Salvatory, praised the Ministry of Energy for the rapid implementation of rural electrification projects and expressed gratitude to the government for including 121 hamlets in Misungwi under the recent nationwide electrification project covering 9,009 hamlets.
Engineer Edson Ngabo, representing the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy (Electricity and Renewable Energy), said the Ministry continues to roll out rural electrification projects across the country.
He urged residents to subscribe to electricity services early and use electricity for economic activities.
Misungwi District has 724 hamlets, with 323 already connected. Work is ongoing to electrify the remaining areas.
