Simba shift focus to Stade Malien showdown

By Victoria Godfrey

Simba SC have officially turned their attention to their final group-stage fixture against Stade Malien following their return to camp after facing KMC.

The much-anticipated encounter against the Malian outfit is scheduled for February 14 at 1:00 a.m. at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

After concluding their domestic assignment against KMC, the Reds of Msimbazi have immediately begun preparations for the continental clash.

The team trained today at Simba Arena and will hold their final session tomorrow at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

Speaking to journalists, Simba SC Media and Communications Manager Ahmed Ally stressed that the match remains highly significant despite the club’s underwhelming group-stage campaign.

He said the club’s leadership wants all Simba supporters to view the game as a major contest, emphasizing that it will be played for the club’s pride and reputation.

Ally acknowledged that Simba are yet to register an international victory at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium this season, a situation that has led some fans to lose confidence in the venue as a fortress.

“Our objective is to change that narrative and restore belief that Benjamin Mkapa Stadium is Simba’s true home. Simba’s philosophy does not allow losing twice in a row to the same opponent,” Ally said, pointing to previous home victories against Al Ahly and Petro de Luanda as examples of the club’s resilience.

He added that Simba are determined to defeat Stade Malien and finish the group stage on a high note and with dignity.

Providing an update on the squad, Ally confirmed that the team is in good condition, with the exception of Wilson Nangu, who is expected to travel to South Africa for ankle surgery. Meanwhile, Yakubu Suleiman is close to making his return to the squad.
