KIUT sets sights on defending DAREVA League Crown

Kampala International University Tanzania (KIUT) has declared its readiness to mount a strong title defense in the upcoming Dar es Salaam Regional Volleyball League (DAREVA), which is set to begin on February 28 at the Kampala College grounds in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking to The Respondent Online, KIUT volleyball team coordinator Roby Msigwa said the reigning champions are focused on retaining the title they claimed last season, despite opting for a modest recruitment strategy ahead of the new campaign.

Msigwa revealed that the team has largely relied on internal talent, with approximately 80 percent of the squad composed of KIUT students.

He noted that the club deliberately avoided major signings, choosing instead to build continuity and develop its existing players.

“This season we have not made big or intimidating signings. We want to give our internal players an opportunity to prove themselves first and assess the competition,” said Msigwa.

“If the need arises, we will consider strengthening the squad during the mid-season transfer window, although we have lost some important male and female players.”he added

He added that preparations have been temporarily affected by the ongoing academic examination period, but assured that training will resume immediately after exams conclude to allow sufficient time for physical and tactical readiness before the league kicks off.

With a strong foundation of youthful energy, institutional support, and championship experience, KIUT remains optimistic about its chances of successfully defending the DAREVA league title in what is expected to be a highly competitive season.
