Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner (RC) Albert Chalamila has expressed concern over the slow progress of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Phase 4 road construction towards Tegeta in Kinondoni District.
During an inspection, he noted that the project was less than 50% complete, although it was scheduled to reach 65% completion at this stage.
The RC has given contractors a two-week deadline to accelerate work, warning that legal action will follow if progress remains unsatisfactory.
While inspecting the Mkwajuni Bridge and other road projects in the district, RC Chalamila praised the construction of the Mkwajuni Bridge but stressed that he would not tolerate delays on projects funded by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who has allocated significant resources to improve Dar es Salaam’s infrastructure.
“After two weeks, I will revisit the BRT roads. If contractors do not increase their pace, legal measures will be taken. I urge them to work round the clock to meet deadlines,” said RC Chalamila.
Concluding his visit at the Mtongani Bridge in Kunduchi Ward, the RC expressed satisfaction with the bridge’s construction and highlighted the government’s commitment to infrastructure development.
He cited other projects funded by President Samia, including the Nguva Bridge in Kigamboni and the Mzinga River Bridge in Temeke.
TANROADS Assistant Project Manager, Justin Moshi, reported that although BRT Phase 4 was initially scheduled for completion, the project was granted an extension due to delays. However, several critical components remain unfinished.
Kinondoni District Commissioner Saad Mtambule explained that the Mtongani Bridge had collapsed due to heavy rains, causing disruption to residents and local traffic.
During the visit, RC Chalamila also inspected the Mivumoni road project and other ongoing infrastructure developments.
He is expected to continue monitoring progress across Kinondoni District on February 12, 2026.
