Police warn against sharing videos that cause public panic

By The Respondents Reporter

The Tanzania Police Force has issued a stern warning to the public over the circulation of a video that has been spreading on social media, cautioning that it is not a recent incident but relates to an event that occurred in Dodoma Region in 2023.

In a statement released to the media on Sunday, February 22, 2026, Police Spokesperson and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) David Misime said authorities, in collaboration with other relevant agencies, have taken appropriate action against all individuals involved in the video for violating national laws and regulations.

DCP Misime urged citizens to stop sharing or using outdated footage while presenting it as a current event, stressing that anyone found doing so will face strict legal action.

He reminded the public of the dangers of spreading false information that can create unnecessary fear and panic in society.

The Police continue to call on Tanzanians to verify information before sharing it online, emphasizing the importance of responsible social media use to protect public safety and trust.
