The Minister of State in the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment), Engineer Hamad Yussuf Masauni, has called on Members of Parliament to actively safeguard the Union of Tanzania by correcting misinformation and providing accurate information to citizens, particularly during public meetings and through social media.

Masauni made these remarks during a seminar on Union and environmental matters for Members of Parliament, held at the Pius Msekwa Hall in Dodoma on February 11, 2026.

He noted that the Union has delivered significant social, political, and economic benefits to the nation, and urged MPs to carefully listen to citizens’ views and address Union-related issues responsibly, with wisdom and transparency.

The Minister emphasized that Members of Parliament play a critical role in protecting and strengthening the Union, describing them as custodians of a historic responsibility to ensure that the Union remains a foundation of peace, national unity, and sustainable development.

On environmental issues, Masauni highlighted that the Vice President’s Office, in collaboration with various stakeholders, has developed the Greening Tanzania Transformation Programme

The programme aims to deliver inclusive and participatory reforms with measurable outcomes, focusing on strengthening the country’s resilience to climate change by expanding green cover through nationwide tree-planting initiatives.

He further explained that on July 17, 2025, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, launched Vision 2050, which recognizes environmental conservation and climate change resilience as key pillars for Tanzania’s long-term development.

In line with Vision 2050, the programme to be presented to Parliament will prioritize wetlands conservation, promotion of clean cooking energy, tree planting, carbon trading, waste management and sanitation, and the control of invasive species, positioning Tanzania as a leader in environmental conservation across Africa.

Speaking at the seminar, the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water and Environment, Jackson Kiswaga, said the training had significantly improved lawmakers’ understanding of environmental matters.

He assured citizens that Members of Parliament would continue to serve as ambassadors of environmental conservation by raising public awareness and promoting sustainable environmental practices across the country.
