Itracom Fertilizer Limited, a phosphate mining and processing company based in Vilima Vitatu, Babati District, has contributed TZS 1.29 billion to government revenues since it began operations in 2023.
The contribution, confirmed by Geologist Mr. Mkupe on behalf of the Manyara Regional Resident Mining Officer, Godfrey Nyanda, comes from royalties and mineral inspection fees.
Since starting production, the mine has extracted 69,929 tonnes of phosphate, valued at TZS 36.99 billion. The mineral has been sold both locally and abroad, notably to Nala District in Dodoma Region and to Burundi.
“The mine has strengthened government revenue collection and supported local community development through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives,” Mr. Mkupe said.
He highlighted that Itracom has funded several development projects, including the construction of Vilima Vitatu Primary School, housing for teachers, and preparations for a girls’ secondary school dormitory.
On domestic sales, from December 16, 2023, to February 24, 2026, a total of 22,686 tonnes of phosphate worth TZS 9.07 billion were sold to Nala, Dodoma.
The government collected TZS 90.74 million in royalties and an equivalent amount in inspection fees.
For exports, 13 permits enabled the shipment of 47,243 tonnes of phosphate valued at TZS 27.92 billion to Burundi.
Between September 4, 2024, and February 24, 2026, the government earned TZS 837.64 million in royalties and TZS 279.21 million in inspection fees from these exports.
“Itracom Fertilizer Limited has shown that phosphate mining is a key driver of Manyara’s economic growth, increasing government revenue, creating jobs, and supporting community development,” Mr. Mkupe said.
He also urged investors to explore opportunities in Manyara, which is rich not only in phosphate but also in gold, moonstone, green tourmaline, amethyst, green aventurine, limestone, azurite, salt, muscovite mica, feldspar, and quartz crystal.
