Tanzania’s mining sector continues to cement its international reputation, attracting global investors, companies, and diplomatic representatives through the ongoing Mining Indaba 2026 conference in Cape Town.
During the event, Minister of Minerals, Anthony Mavunde, held high-level discussions with key stakeholders, including the World Bank, and participated in the SADC Ministers of Mining meeting.
Australia Sees Tanzania as Key Mining Partner
In a bilateral session, Australia’s Deputy Ambassador Christopher Ellinger expressed strong interest in Tanzania’s mining industry, describing the country as a top choice for Australian investment.
He highlighted Australia’s readiness to partner with Tanzania on mining projects and requested clarification on local participation regulations, particularly in mining services.
World Bank Supports Tanzania’s Mining Vision
The World Bank recognized Tanzania as a strategic investment hub in Africa. The institution emphasized the need to continue investing in the sector and collaborating with the government to improve the investment climate and maximize economic benefits.
The Bank applauded Tanzania’s push to strengthen exploration, research, and domestic mineral value addition, moving away from exporting raw resources.
Minister Mavunde reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing geoscientific research and ensuring value addition within the country.
Mahenge Graphite Project Promises Economic Gains
Minister Mavunde highlighted the government’s “Mining is Life and Wealth” mantra, stressing geoscientific research and local value addition as priorities.
At a meeting with Faru Graphite a government-Black Rock Mining joint venture the company reported strong progress in graphite extraction in Mahenge, Morogoro Region, and thanked officials for enabling a successful partnership.
Gold Mining Collaboration in Kigosi
South Africa-based Plantcor Mining, which specializes in mineral extraction and equipment leasing, confirmed it is finalizing a partnership with the State Mining Corporation (STAMICO).
The collaboration will focus on gold mining projects on STAMICO-licensed concessions in Kigosi, Geita Region.
Breakthrough Attorneys and NMB Bank Promote Investment
Breakthrough Attorneys and NMB Bank jointly organized a workshop on February 10, 2026, in Cape Town to promote Tanzania’s mining sector and attract investors.
Minister Mavunde, speaking as the chief guest, said Tanzania is moving from merely owning mineral resources to participating across the entire value chain.
He urged investors to seize opportunities in domestic value addition, which aligns with the African Mining Vision and Tanzania’s industrial policies.
The Minister also praised NMB Bank’s active role in supporting investors, noting that domestic and international financial backing demonstrates that Tanzania’s mining sector is ready for growth, investment, and global partnerships.
