Young Africans SC (Yanga) moved to the top of the NBC Tanzania Mainland Premier League standings after a commanding 6–0 victory over Mashujaa FC at the KMC Complex Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.
The emphatic win lifted Yanga to 19 points, pushing JKT Tanzania down to second place with 17 points.
However, JKT Tanzania remain in contention for the summit spot and could reclaim top position if they secure victory against Singida Black Stars in their match scheduled for tomorrow, which would take them to 20 points.
Yanga wasted no time asserting their authority, opening the scoring in the eighth minute through Mohamed Damaro.
The early goal set the pace for a dominant first-half display, as the champions controlled possession and applied sustained pressure on their opponents.
Duke Abuya doubled the lead in the 28th minute before Pacome Zouzoua made it 3–0 five minutes later, ensuring Yanga went into the halftime break with a comfortable advantage.
Despite attempts by Mashujaa to reorganise and mount a response in the second half, Yanga continued to dictate proceedings and create clear scoring opportunities.
Prince Dube struck the fourth goal in the 79th minute, effectively ending any hopes of a comeback. Mudathir Yahya added the fifth two minutes later, before Depu wrapped up the rout with a well-taken finish in the 89th minute.
The final whistle sealed Yanga’s biggest win of the season so far in the NBC Tanzania Mainland Premier League, further underlining their strong start to the campaign and intent to defend the title.
