Nkasi boosts disaster management capacity

By The Respondents Reporter

The Prime Minister’s Office has strengthened disaster management capacity in Nkasi District as part of efforts to improve preparedness and build resilient communities against natural and man-made disasters.

Through its Disaster Management Department, the Prime Minister’s Office trained members of the Nkasi District Disaster Management Technical Committee during a session held on January 19, 2026.

The training focused on equipping local experts with practical knowledge to ensure effective coordination before, during and after disasters.

The session was conducted by a team of specialists from the Prime Minister’s Office during a meeting to review draft disaster management documents prepared for use by the Nkasi District Council.

The meeting, led by the District Executive Director, was jointly organized by the Prime Minister’s Office Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities in collaboration with experts from the Nkasi District Council.

Participants were guided through key documents, including the Disaster Risk Assessment, Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment, Disaster Preparedness and Response Plan, and the Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy.

These documents are intended to support evidence-based planning, early preparedness and timely response to emergencies at the district level.

Speaking after the meeting, Acting Nkasi District Executive Director Mr Eliud Njogellah praised the work done by the technical teams, saying the documents had come at a crucial time as the council has been experiencing various disasters and emergencies.

He said the council would make full use of the documents to strengthen disaster preparedness, reduce risks and protect the safety and livelihoods of residents across the district.
