Minister of Energy, Deogratius Ndejembi, today, January 22, 2026, officially opened the 55th meeting of the TANESCO Workers’ Council, held in Dodoma.
The meeting reflects a renewed commitment to strengthening both employee welfare and the delivery of reliable electricity services across Tanzania.
Bringing together TANESCO leadership, union representatives, regional directors, and staff from subsidiary companies, the gathering underscored the importance of collaboration between management and employees in shaping the future of the national electricity provider.
Opening the meeting, Ndejembi, acknowledged the government’s efforts under President Samia Suluhu Hassan to improve the benefits and welfare of TANESCO employees.
He emphasized that effective management of workers’ rights and fostering cooperation in the workplace are key to enhancing both organizational performance and service delivery.
“Gathering to discuss issues that affect employees in depth provides an opportunity to align on solutions that will improve both the performance of the organization and the welfare of its staff,” Minister Ndejembi said, highlighting the meeting’s strategic importance.
TANESCO Managing Director, Lazaro Twange, welcomed the Minister’s presence, noting that top-level support is crucial to ensuring the council’s discussions translate into real results.
Twange assured that the organization would continue protecting employees’ rights while focusing on improving electricity services nationwide.
The meeting also highlighted the role of unions, including the Trade Union of Industrial and Commercial Organizations (TUICO), in promoting dialogue between management and staff.
By engaging multiple stakeholders, the council serves as a platform to address workplace challenges, ensure employee welfare, and align workforce objectives with national energy priorities.
Beyond administrative discussions, the 55th TANESCO Workers’ Council meeting sends a broader signal: Tanzania is determined to strengthen institutional governance, motivate its workforce, and ensure that citizens benefit from a reliable and efficient electricity supply.
