Prime Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has engaged with residents of Tindiga area in Kilosa District, Morogoro Region, who have been affected by ongoing heavy rains that have caused flooding and disrupted livelihoods.
Speaking during his visit on January 2, 2026, Dr Nchemba said the government of President Samia Suluhu Hassan had already initiated long-term strategies to address the effects of heavy rainfall and recurrent floods in Morogoro Region.
He cited the planned construction of rainwater harvesting and storage dams in the Kidete area as a key intervention expected to provide a lasting solution to flooding in several parts of the region.
“The construction of these dams will offer a permanent solution to the flooding challenges that have continued to affect Morogoro Region,” said the Prime Minister.
Dr Nchemba noted that the project is currently at an advanced technical stage, including preparations to identify a contractor, and confirmed that funding for the construction has already been secured.
“Funds for the construction of the dams are available. We are now completing technical procedures, including procurement. I have directed the relevant ministries to ensure these processes are finalized without delay so that construction can commence,” he said.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting citizens from the impacts of climate change and natural disasters, while investing in resilient infrastructure to safeguard lives, property, and economic activities in flood-prone areas.
