The Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has led the ministry’s management in a meeting with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security at Parliament offices in Dodoma.

The meeting, chaired by Najma Murtaza Giga, focused on reviewing the ministry’s performance and assessing the status of Tanzania’s diplomatic engagement at both regional and international levels.

Presenting the ministry’s implementation report, Minister Kombo outlined progress made in executing parliamentary resolutions related to foreign affairs.

He highlighted Tanzania’s continued emphasis on economic diplomacy, aimed at safeguarding national economic interests and expanding trade, investment, and employment opportunities.

The minister said the government remains committed to strengthening Tanzania’s diplomatic footprint in regional blocs and global platforms, with a focus on leveraging international partnerships for national development.

Commending the ministry’s work, the committee chair praised its leadership and urged the institution to adopt more strategic measures in maximising international cooperation, particularly in advancing economic diplomacy.

“It is important for the ministry to continue implementing economic diplomacy effectively to ensure Tanzania benefits fully from global opportunities, including attracting investment, expanding trade, creating jobs, and protecting national economic interests,” the committee noted.

The committee further advised the ministry to intensify efforts in promoting Tanzania as an investment destination, facilitating overseas employment opportunities, securing international training scholarships, and strengthening the country’s economic and diplomatic standing.

Members of the committee emphasised that a stronger focus on economic diplomacy would enhance Tanzania’s competitiveness and enable the country to harness more benefits from international partnerships.

The meeting reflects Parliament’s ongoing oversight role in strengthening Tanzania’s foreign policy, economic diplomacy, and global engagement.
