TARURA showcases climate adaptation successes at UN Climate Conference (COP30)

As reported in Belem, Brazil

The Chief Executive Officer of the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA), Engineer Victor Seff, has said that the Government of Tanzania has made major strides in restoring infrastructure damaged by climate change across many parts of the country.

Engineer Seff made the remarks while delivering a presentation at the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), currently underway in the city of Belem, Brazil.

In his presentation, the CEO showcased a short documentary illustrating how the agency has successfully restored connectivity on roads devastated by extreme weather events by constructing climate-resilient infrastructure capable of remaining passable year-round.

He noted that through the agency’s “bottleneck removal” programme, TARURA has constructed bridges and roads that have reopened access to villages, enabling farmers to transport their produce and improving access to essential social services such as healthcare.

Contributing to discussions on the SCALE project coordinated by the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), he emphasised that TARURA is a key stakeholder in the initiative.
