The Tanzania Posts Corporation (TPC) has strengthened its global standing after receiving an International Security Certificate (S58 & S59) from the Universal Postal Union (UPU), a recognition that assures citizens and businesses of safer, more reliable postal services.
The gold-level “Grade A” certificate was presented on November 24, 2025, in Dar es Salaam by UPU Director General Masahiko Metoki.
The award follows a detailed one-week inspection by UPU experts, who assessed how well Tanzania protects mail, parcels and sensitive information that move through its postal network.
TPC performed strongly in the audit, scoring 598 out of 640 points. This means the corporation successfully met all global safety standards required to safeguard customers’ items from origin to delivery.
Speaking after receiving the certificate, Caroline Kanuti representing the Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology said the recognition reflects the growing trust in Tanzania’s postal system.
She noted that the government is committed to modernising postal services so citizens can enjoy secure and efficient deliveries.
TPC’s Head of Internal Security, Superintendent Mathias Kipeta, added that the award motivates the corporation to continue improving its infrastructure, technology and procedures to ensure the safety of letters and parcels, both locally and internationally.
UPU’s expert team also provided recommendations to help the corporation further strengthen operations, including tightening cargo checks, upgrading tracking systems and improving key processing centres where international mail is handled.
By receiving this certification, Tanzania joins a select group of countries whose postal operators meet the highest international security requirements.
