Tanzanians urged to uphold morals as online indecency spreads

By The Respondent Reporter

The Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports has urged Tanzanians to act responsibly and protect national moral values following a surge in indecent content circulating online.

Videos showing people dancing and performing inappropriate music in public spaces, transport hubs, and residential areas have raised alarm over their impact on society.

The Ministry emphasized that safeguarding Tanzanian morals is a collective responsibility. Citizens who encounter such content are encouraged to report it immediately to the Ministry, the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), or the Police to ensure offenders face legal action.

Authorities warned that sharing or reposting such material not only harms communities but also violates the Cybercrimes Act of 2015, which prohibits distributing immoral content.

Social media users are advised to remove offending posts immediately to protect public morals and avoid legal consequences.

The Ministry reiterated that moral stewardship is a duty for all, as outlined in the 1997 Cultural Policy. It continues to collaborate with partners to educate communities and take decisive action against those deliberately undermining Tanzanian values in the digital space.
