The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has stepped up efforts to strengthen its relationship with the business community by engaging more than 1,000 traders and entrepreneurs in Kagera Region through a tax education seminar.
The seminar, held on October 20, 2025, aimed to promote a better understanding of tax obligations, enhance voluntary compliance, and support business growth through the Business Facilitation Desk, an initiative designed to help traders access guidance and resolve business challenges.
Speaking during the opening session, TRA’s Kagera Regional Manager, Mr. Castro John, said the Authority is committed to building a partnership based on trust and transparency between TRA and taxpayers.
“We don’t just collect taxes we want to empower you to understand the system and use it to grow your business. The Business Facilitation Desk is your partner in solving challenges and accessing reliable business advice,” said Mr. John.
He urged business owners to keep accurate records and use them to manage operations effectively, noting that proper documentation not only simplifies compliance but also opens opportunities for credit and business expansion.
Participants commended TRA for bringing education directly to the grassroots, saying the initiative is helping to clear misconceptions about tax procedures and encourage openness in the relationship between traders and the Authority.
“This kind of training makes us feel included. We now understand that paying taxes is not punishment but a contribution to our country’s growth,” said one participant.
The seminar forms part of TRA’s ongoing strategy to make tax administration more accessible and supportive, especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
By focusing on education, partnership, and innovation, TRA continues to promote a culture of voluntary compliance that fuels Tanzania’s economic transformation.
