A team of 38 Tanzanian swimmers comprising youth and masters’ categories has departed for Nairobi, Kenya, to take part in the East and Central Africa Zone Three Swimming Championships, which will be held from October 16 to 19, 2025.

The delegation includes 28 youth swimmers and 10 senior “masters” competitors who will represent Tanzania against some of the strongest swimming nations in the region.

The Director of Competitions at the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA), Amina Mfaume, said the team has undergone extensive preparations ahead of the tournament.

“Our swimmers have trained for months, and we are confident they will represent the country well and make Tanzania proud,” she said.

TSA President David Mwasyoge encouraged the swimmers to remain focused and determined throughout the competition.

“We are aware the contest will be tough, especially against Kenya and Uganda, but we want to see our team bring home medals,” he said.

Mwasyoge noted that the regional event will attract participants from over ten countries across East and Central Africa, making it one of the most competitive swimming championships in the region.

The National Sports Council (BMT) Sports Officer, Charles Maguzu, praised TSA for its dedication to advancing swimming in Tanzania and confirmed the government’s support for the team.

“The government recognizes your efforts and has contributed funds to support your participation. We expect you to compete strongly and bring back medals,” he said.

Head Coach Kanisi Zavery expressed optimism about the team’s readiness, saying the swimmers have been equipped with the right techniques and mindset to achieve success.

“The athletes are well-prepared both mentally and physically. We’ve worked on strategies to ensure strong performances in all categories,” Zavery explained.

Swimmer Romeo Mwaipasi echoed that confidence, saying the team is eager to make an impact.

“We are ready and determined to return home with good results. Our goal is to make the country proud,” he said.

The Tanzanian team’s participation in the Nairobi championships highlights the nation’s growing investment in competitive swimming and its ambition to strengthen its presence in regional and international sports.
