Tanzania is participating in the World Health Summit taking place in Berlin, Germany, as part of its broader commitment to strengthening international cooperation and advancing health diplomacy.
The Tanzanian delegation is led by the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Mr. Ismail Rumatila, and includes Tanzania’s Ambassador to Germany, Hassani Mwamweta.
The three-day summit, which runs from October 12 to 14, 2025, is being held under the theme “Taking Responsibility for Health in a Fragmenting World.”
The annual forum has drawn global health leaders, policymakers, international organizations, civil society, the private sector, scientists, and activists to deliberate on ways to address the most pressing health challenges of the 21st century.
Discussions during the opening session centered on enhancing international collaboration in the health sector and tackling the growing threat of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney failure, and cancer, which remain among the leading causes of death worldwide.
The World Health Organization’s (WHO) Regional Director for Africa, Prof. Mohamed Janabi, was among the key panelists, highlighting the importance of resilient health systems, equitable access to healthcare, and joint action to mitigate global health risks.
Tanzania’s participation underscores the Sixth-Phase Government’s resolve under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan to leverage global partnerships in building a stronger and more inclusive healthcare system.
Beyond policy dialogue, such engagements are seen as vital in attracting investment and expertise to support Tanzania’s ongoing reforms in the health sector.
