The Sixth Phase Government, under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, is stepping up efforts to ensure that elderly Tanzanians live with dignity and access essential services that support their well-being.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, Dr. John Jingu, said the government values the elderly for their lifelong contributions to the nation. He made the remarks on October 15, 2025, during a visit to the Tushikamane Pamoja Foundation Home for Vulnerable Elderly in Kwembe Ward, Ubungo Municipality, Dar es Salaam.
“The visit aims to see the elderly, understand their needs, and continue honoring them for their major role in building and strengthening our society. I commend the excellent care and support provided here,” Dr. Jingu said.
He also praised the home’s staff and the Ubungo Municipality for their coordination, saying their commitment ensures elderly residents live in safe and supportive environments.
Deputy Chairperson of the home, Sada Jaha, said the biggest challenge is a shortage of staff to care for residents. She urged stakeholders and organizations to support government initiatives to honor and protect elderly citizens.
“We thank the Permanent Secretary for visiting, listening, and assuring us that our challenges will be addressed. This government cares and prioritizes the welfare of the elderly,” she said.
Residents also expressed gratitude for the visit, saying it brought comfort, hope, and a sense of belonging. They said being remembered and valued by the government motivates them to continue living actively and meaningfully.
