Government strengthens partnerships to boost nutrition sector

By The Respondents Reporter

The Tanzanian government is stepping up collaboration with national and international partners to improve the country’s nutrition sector through sustainable systems.

Deputy Parmanent Secretary of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Dr. Edwin Mhede, said this during the launch of the Initiative on Climate Action and Nutrition (I-CAN) forum held today, October 16, 2025, at Rafiki Hotel in Dodoma.

Dr. Mhede emphasized that the government is working closely with stakeholders to align policies on climate change with nutrition priorities.

“The discussions today should drive the nutrition sector forward. Reviewing and updating nutrition policies remains essential to achieve this goal,” he said, adding that citizens can expect initiatives promoting clean, climate-friendly cooking energy.

Dr. Winfrida Mayilla, Project Manager at the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), said the forum focused on identifying the links between climate change and nutrition while ensuring national policies support sustainable solutions.

“Our goal is to ensure that food and nutrition policies integrate climate strategies, and through joint efforts, we can improve the health and nutrition of Tanzanians,” Dr. Mayilla said.

The I-CAN project forum also addressed investments in agriculture, livestock, and fisheries, aiming to strengthen resilience against climate change while improving nutrition outcomes.
