Gombo urges Tanzanians to use voting instead of protests

Presidential candidate Gombo Sambandito Gombo of the Civic United Front (CUF) has urged Tanzanians to channel their frustrations into voting rather than organizing protests, warning that demonstrations could disrupt peace and stability.

Speaking to journalists in Mbeya on October 14, 2025, Gombo emphasized that meaningful change comes through the ballot box.

He described planned protests on Election Day, October 29, as counterproductive and harmful to the nation.

“Use your anger to vote for change on October 29. That is the legitimate way to bring transformation. This year, removing CCM from power is possible. Do not seek other paths that would allow CCM to remain in office,” Gombo said.

He cited Madagascar as an example, where protests aimed at toppling the government led to violence, property destruction, and harm to women and children.

Outlining his priorities, Gombo promised to resolve land disputes between farmers and pastoralists and ensure major cities are developed with modern infrastructure and organized housing.

“The cities I will prioritize are Mbeya, Arusha, Dar es Salaam, and Dodoma. With my urban planning expertise, I will modernize these cities, addressing the challenges caused by poor planning. Housing and roads will be built according to proper infrastructure standards,” he said.

Gombo also pledged to restore authority to village and street leaders in supervising land sales, noting that frequent transfers of government officials often fuel conflicts due to lack of local knowledge.

He called on Tanzanians to support CUF financially to facilitate the electoral process. The party plans to pay 100,000 polling observers TZS 100,000 each.
