Young Africans (Yanga) will face Kenya’s Bandari FC this evening at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam in an international friendly that marks the climax of Mwananchi Day celebrations.
Head coach Romain Folz said yesterday that his squad is ready for the encounter, which he described as an important test ahead of the Community Shield against Simba SC on September 16.
“My players are in good condition except for one who is injured. Although it is my first experience of Mwananchi Day, I believe the fans will enjoy the match,” said Folz.
Yanga captain Bakari Mwamnyeto assured fans that the players are equally prepared. “We have trained well and are focused on delivering good football for our supporters,” he said.
Bandari coach Ken Odhiambo said his side will approach the game with respect for Yanga’s pedigree. “We know how big Yanga is, and we will give our best so that the fans enjoy the contest,” he noted.
Bandari captain Dennis Njiri added that the Kenyan side is determined to perform strongly. “Yanga have quality forwards, so we must stay disciplined to avoid mistakes,” he said.
According to Yanga’s media and communications officer, Ally Kamwe, the fixture will be preceded by two curtain-raisers: Yanga Princess versus Mashujaa Queens and a match between Yanga leaders and local artists. Fans will also be treated to music performances from singeli and bongo flava artists.
Kamwe called on Yanga supporters to fill the stadium, saying the event will also provide them with the chance to meet the club’s new signings for the season.
