The government has announced new measures to enhance healthcare services by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into modern medical equipment, a move aimed at boosting efficiency and expanding access to quality care.

The Executive Director of the Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute (MOI), Ambassador Dr. Mpoki Ulisubisya, made the remarks on September 10, 2025, at the opening of the International Exhibition on Pharmaceuticals and Medical Equipment in Dar es Salaam.

Dr. Mpoki said the adoption of AI in health technologies is making medical devices more effective and easier to use, allowing healthcare workers to serve more patients in less time.

“Artificial intelligence reduces the time required to attend to patients while improving the effectiveness of medical interventions. It ensures that the right equipment is deployed where it is most needed,” he said.

He pointed out that Tanzania’s strategic position as a gateway to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the East African Community (EAC) offers vast opportunities for investment in pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

“Anyone who brings their business to Tanzania will gain access to a significant market across SADC, East Africa and Southern Africa,” Dr. Mpoki noted.

He added that international exhibitions provide an important platform for exchanging ideas and tailoring solutions to the unique healthcare needs of different countries.

“Most medical technologies are designed to address the demands of specific markets. When government representatives engage with manufacturers, they are able to provide feedback that reflects the realities of their people,” he said.
