Simba SC thrilled fans with a 2-0 victory against Kenya’s Gor Mahia in a friendly match held today at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, marking the club’s annual Simba Day celebrations.
The home side took the lead in the 7th minute through a powerful header by Abdulrazak Hamza. Simba maintained the advantage through the first half, going into the break 1-0 up.
Four minutes into the second half, Steven Mukwala doubled the lead, sealing a comfortable win for the hosts. The match concluded with jubilant celebrations from fans who filled the stadium to capacity.
Speaking after the game, Simba’s head coach Fadlu Davids expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance.
“This was a good test for our squad. It allowed me to evaluate players ahead of key fixtures, including the Community Shield against Yanga SC and our CAF Champions League matches abroad. We will now focus on addressing areas that need improvement,” he said, thanking supporters for their unwavering backing.
Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor noted that the match was a valuable preparation for the upcoming season and their campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Simba Day festivities attracted fans, club members, and dignitaries, including government officials and club leadership. Tanzania’s Minister of Water, Juma Aweso, attended as the guest of honor.
