Tanzania’s JKT Queens have powered their way into the semi-finals of the CECAFA Women’s Championship after defeating South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars 2-0 in Nairobi today.
The decisive win came in their final group-stage fixture, ensuring the Tanzanian side’s smooth passage to the knockout stage.
The first half ended goalless, with both teams battling for control but failing to find the back of the net. However, the breakthrough arrived in the 60th minute when Jamila Rajabu struck to put JKT Queens in front.
Nine minutes later, Ester Maseke sealed the victory with a second goal, leaving the South Sudanese side with no chance of recovery.
The result confirmed JKT Queens’ dominance in the group, positioning them strongly as they prepare to face Kenya Police in the semi-finals on September 14.
JKT Queens’ media officer, Masau Bwire, expressed confidence in the team’s prospects, saying the win reflected the quality and discipline within the squad.
“This victory was expected, considering the strength of our players. Now, our focus shifts to the semi-final against Kenya Police as we continue the journey toward the final,” he said.
Bwire urged Tanzanians to rally behind the team as they chase regional glory. “We ask for the continued prayers and support of our people so that we can meet our target of lifting this trophy,” he added.
