The Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Albert Chalamila, has expressed deep condolences to the Catholic Church following the death of four nuns from the Carmelite Missionary Order of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus.
The nuns were laid to rest today in Boko Ward, Kinondoni District, during a solemn Holy Mass attended by family, church leaders, and local community members.
Speaking at the ceremony, RC Chalamila conveyed condolences on behalf of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, describing the loss as a significant blow to the Catholic Church and the Carmelite Missionary Order.
He also contributed TZS 10 million as a gesture of sympathy and donated another TZS 10 million to support the completion of the parish church of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus.
“The passing of these nuns leaves a huge void in the Church and their community. Let us receive them in Christ, as the Bible teaches,” RC Chalamila said.
The four nuns Sr. M. Lilian G. Kapongo, Sr. M. Nerina De Simone, Sr. M. Damaris Matheka, and Sr. Stellamaris Muthini tragically lost their lives on September 15, 2025, in a road accident involving a collision with a large truck in Mwanza Region.
