The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Wazohuru Media, Mr. Mathias Canal, on Sunday led a successful fundraising drive that generated over TZS85 million to support the construction of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania (ELCT) St. George Parish in Kiomboi, Iramba District.
The event, held at the church’s construction site in Lulumba Ward, brought together parishioners, religious leaders, and development partners.
According to organizers, a total of TZS79.4 million was collected in cash while pledges amounted to TSh4 million, pushing the contributions to TSh85 million.
Mr. Canal, who was the guest of honour, personally contributed TZS3.8 million in cash and 10 bags of cement, with additional support from his friends.
Speaking at the event, he described the church as a cornerstone of both spiritual and social life, noting that it plays a vital role in strengthening values such as love, unity, and integrity within the community.
“The construction of this church is not only for the present generation but also a heritage for generations to come. By joining hands in this effort, we are writing the history of faith and unity while demonstrating self-reliance, patriotism, and the development vision of the ELCT Central Diocese,” he said.
He urged worshippers and well-wishers to continue supporting the project, saying the modern facility will meet the needs of the Kiomboi community, including those with special requirements.
Once complete, the church will have a seating capacity of 2,500, a 300-seat conference hall, six offices, a bookshop, a study area, a storage room for sacramental items, and a smaller dining space.
The project is currently in its second phase, which involves completing the wall structure and casting the upper slab.
Overall, the construction is planned in four stages: laying the foundation, walling, roofing, and finishing works.
Mr. Canal said the project’s success depends on the collective sacrifice of believers, leaders, and development partners.
“When we build the house of God, we are also laying the foundation for blessings in our own lives and families,” he added.
