Uyovu Ward in Bukombe District is set to become a key business hub in Geita Region, with Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) promising to expand infrastructure and social services to support economic growth.
CCM parliamentary candidate for Bukombe constituency, Doto Mashaka Biteko, told a campaign rally in Uyovu on September 17 that ongoing development projects under President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration had laid a strong foundation for the ward’s transformation.
Dr. Biteko said Uyovu has seen rapid progress in education, health, water supply, and roads over the past five years, making it one of the fastest-growing wards in the district.
“Uyovu is no longer the same. We have moved from three to 11 public primary schools, in addition to a private school, seven secondary schools, and even an advanced-level school. We also have schools for children with special needs in Uyovu and Ushirombo,” he said.
He noted that infrastructure projects such as paved urban roads, a district hospital, dispensaries, and a Sh1.1 billion water project had significantly improved residents’ living standards.
Dr. Biteko added that Uyovu’s strategic location offered potential for trade and pledged that CCM would position the ward as Bukombe’s business hub.
This, he said, would be supported by national initiatives, including a Sh200 billion loan scheme for youth and women entrepreneurs.
“Once we strengthen infrastructure and ensure that businesses have access to financing, Uyovu will attract investors and traders. This is how we will create jobs and accelerate growth in Bukombe,” he said.
Uyovu Ward councillorship candidate, Mathayo Kagoma, said residents already see the benefits of development and are eager for more.
He pointed to the rapid expansion in education as a sign that the community is moving forward.
“In just ten years of Dr. Biteko’s leadership, we have made strides in education, and with better health services coming in, Uyovu has a clear path to prosperity,” Mr. Kagoma said.
