Vodacom Tanzania PLC has posted strong financial and operational results for the year ended March 31, 2025, reflecting robust growth, strategic investments, and continued commitment to digital inclusion and financial empowerment.

“Our performance this year reflects the strength of our strategy and our unwavering commitment to connecting Tanzanians to a better future,” said Philip Besiimire, Managing Director of Vodacom Tanzania. “Through innovation and partnership, we are bridging the digital and financial divide.”

The company’s service revenue rose 20.5 percent to TZS 1.5 trillion, driven by a surge in customers and higher adoption of M-Pesa and data services.

Net profit after tax jumped 69.4 percent to TZS 90.5 billion, supported by efficiency measures that delivered TZS 59 billion in cost savings. Vodacom added three million new customers, ending the year with 22.6 million users.

M-Pesa remained a key growth driver, with revenue up 29.3 percent and transaction value increasing 33.8 percent year-on-year.

The company strengthened financial inclusion through innovative platforms.

“Services such as M-Koba, now serving 1.3 million customers, over half of them women, and M-Wekeza, which attracted TZS 25 billion in deposits shortly after launch, show how mobile solutions empower Tanzanians,” Besiimire said.

The company’s digital payments platform, Lipa kwa Simu, processed over TZS 1 trillion in monthly transactions, while short-term loans and Songesha overdrafts disbursed more than TZS 3 trillion to support individuals and merchants nationwide.

Mobile data revenue increased 21.6 percent, supported by a 33.4 percent rise in smartphone penetration and sustained network investments.

Vodacom deployed 471 new 4G sites, including 126 in underserved rural areas, through a partnership with the Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCSAF).

Marking its 25th anniversary in Tanzania, Vodacom emphasized its purpose-driven approach.

“As we celebrate 25 years of positively impacting lives in Tanzania, we remain focused on delivering sustainable growth and purpose-led transformation,” said David Tarimo, Board Chairman of Vodacom Tanzania. “Our results affirm the trust our customers and shareholders place in us.”

Looking ahead, Vodacom expects a stable regulatory environment and pledged to expand its network, improve customer experience, and deepen digital inclusion.

“We will continue working closely with the government to enhance connectivity and improve living standards across the country,” Tarimo added.
