As Tanzania prepares for the 2025 general elections, the Tanzania Bloggers Network (TBN) has stepped up efforts to engage media leaders and stakeholders to promote responsible reporting and information sharing.
The move was highlighted during the Eastern Zone Media and Broadcasting Stakeholders Meeting held on August 21, 2025, in Dar es Salaam.
The meeting, officially opened by the Minister of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Professor Palamagamba Kabudi, brought together regulators, media professionals, and law enforcement officials to discuss strategies for ethical coverage, collaboration between traditional and digital media, and the dissemination of accurate information during the election period.
Key attendees included the Acting Director of the Media Council, Patrick Kipangula; Acting Director of Government Information Services (MAELEZO), Rodney Mbuya; Secretary General of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Gerson Msigwa; Deputy Commissioner and Police Spokesperson David Misime; and Broadcasting Services Manager at the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), Engineer Andrew Kisaka. Representatives of the Dar es Salaam Regional Peace Committee were also present.
TBN was represented by sponsor Muhidin Issa Michuzi, Chairman Beda Msimbe, Committee Member Joachim Mushi, and Treasurer Cathbert Kajuna, who is also a media specialist.
During the meeting, participants discussed the vital role of bloggers and online content creators in ensuring the public receives timely, accurate, and credible information.
Professor Kabudi urged all media practitioners to maintain high standards of integrity, accuracy, and fairness in their reporting. He emphasized that informed citizens are crucial for credible elections and peaceful democratic processes.
The session concluded with calls for ongoing collaboration between media stakeholders and authorities to safeguard transparency, accountability, and peace throughout the electoral period.
