TPA boosts efficiency through infrastructure and technology upgrades

By Our Reporter

The Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) is implementing strategic initiatives to improve its efficiency in handling both domestic and international cargo, a move expected to enhance trade and reduce delays along the Central Corridor.

Key measures include upgrading port infrastructure, deploying modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) systems, and strengthening collaboration with private-sector stakeholders, including port operators.

Speaking on behalf of TPA’s Director General, Deputy Director General Dr. Baraka Mdima highlighted that these initiatives aim not only at operational efficiency but also at promoting a culture of integrity and accountability among employees, clients, and stakeholders.

Dr. Mdima made the remarks while opening a stakeholders’ meeting on cargo transport through the Central Corridor in Bagamoyo, Pwani Region, on August 21, 2025.

He noted that the meeting sought to identify sector challenges and develop practical strategies to enhance efficiency, lower costs, and facilitate trade along the corridor.

He further emphasized TPA’s commitment to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure the Central Corridor becomes a modern, highly efficient transport route that significantly contributes to Tanzania’s economic growth and benefits the wider region.

Mr. Martin Masunga, representing the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport, welcomed feedback from stakeholders and assured that the government will act on recommendations to streamline trade activities and minimize delays along the corridor.

The meeting, organized by TPA under the Ministry of Transport’s guidance, brought together key sector players, including the Tanzania Shipping Agents Association (TASAA), Tanzania Customs Agents Association (TACAS), Tanzania Shippers Council (TSC), Central Inland Dry Ports Owners Association (CIDAT), Tanzania Association of Transport Operators (TAT), and the Tanzania Association of Small and Medium Truck Owners (TAMSTOA).
