TMA strengthens farmer resilience through climate change education at Nanenane

The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has used the Eastern Zone Nanenane Agricultural Exhibition to raise awareness among smallholder farmers on how to adapt to the effects of climate change by using timely and accurate weather information to guide farming decisions.

The campaign, broadcast live on MVIWATA FM from TMA’s pavilion at the Mwalimu Nyerere Grounds in Morogoro, enabled the message to reach farmers across the region, including those unable to attend the exhibition.

TMA Eastern Zone Manager, Ms. Hidaya Senga, said the authority has been working with the media and other outreach programmes to ensure that farmers access weather forecasts in time to plan their activities, boost productivity, and minimise losses.

She commended the government for equipping TMA with modern tools for rapid and precise data collection and analysis.

“These facilities have enhanced our capacity to issue accurate forecasts and early warnings, which are crucial for both farmers and the general public,” Ms. Senga said.
