Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has directed contractors and operators of the Dar es Salaam Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Phase Two project to work around the clock to ensure the system becomes operational before the end of August.

Speaking during an inspection tour today, August 13, 2025, Majaliwa assessed the newly procured buses and key infrastructure, including the main terminal at Mbagala Rangi Tatu, the Gerezani station, and a dedicated gas refilling facility under construction at Mbagala Rangi Tatu.

“The government is committed to delivering a fast, safe and modern public transport service. We must finalise the remaining works so that residents can start enjoying this service without delay,” the Prime Minister said.

He was accompanied by Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament and Coordination) William Lukuvi, Deputy Minister in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government) Zainab Katimba, Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament and Coordination) Dr Jim Yonazi, and senior officials from the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (Latra), the Dar Rapid Transit Agency (Dart), and the National Institute of Transport (NIT).

Once operational, the BRT Phase Two system is expected to ease congestion, cut travel time and raise the quality of public transport in Dar es Salaam, benefiting thousands of daily commuters.
