Ilala prepares over 66,000 plots for land titles to boost economic security

The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, together with the Dar es Salaam City Director’s Office, is advancing efforts to formalize land ownership in Ilala through a comprehensive Land Clinic initiative.

The program aims to provide residents with official land ownership certificates, strengthening legal security and economic potential for citizens.

Dar es Salaam Regional Assistant Commissioner of Lands, Ms. Rehema Mwinuka, confirmed that all 66,029 plots earmarked for formalization have been surveyed.

She noted that once titles are issued, residents can leverage their land as collateral in financial institutions, a move expected to enhance access to credit and reduce land-related disputes.

Ms. Mwinuka emphasized the importance of residents visiting the Kivule Ward Executive Officer’s office to collect their land titles and access other land services, including payment of plot taxes.

The initiative covers multiple wards in Ilala, including Bombambili, Kerezange, Kivule, Magole ‘A’, Kitonga, Mbondole, Lubakaya, Pugu Kichangani, Pugu Station, Kitinye, Kitunda Relini, Kitunda Machimbo, Kipera, Kiyombo, Mogo, Sabasaba, Uwanja wa Ndege, Khanga, Kinyerezi, Bonyokwa, and Amani–Liwiti.

The formalization of these plots is likely to drive economic empowerment while minimizing the risk of land conflicts in the region.
