The Office of the Attorney General (AG) and the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) have reinforced their working relationship through a strategic experience-sharing meeting aimed at enhancing legal collaboration in the maritime sector. The engagement was held on August 14, 2025, in Dodoma.

Senior State Attorney, Mr. Ladislaus Komanya, said the meeting provided a valuable platform for Government Attorneys to gain in-depth knowledge of TASAC’s legal framework and operational responsibilities.

“As the Office of the Attorney General, we met with our TASAC colleagues to receive specialized training that would enable us to understand their mandate comprehensively. They have taken us through the laws governing their work and the functions they implement,” he said.

Mr. Komanya noted that the session also served as a platform for sharing experiences in executing legal duties, with the aim of improving coordination between the two institutions.

“This meeting will help us exchange insights on how to effectively implement various legal responsibilities, particularly in areas where our mandates intersect,” he added.

TASAC’s Director of Legal Services, Ms. Judith Kakongwe, underscored the importance of the Attorney General’s Office as a key legal partner in the agency’s work.

“The AG’s Office is a major stakeholder with whom we collaborate closely in drafting regulations, reviewing contracts, and ratifying international agreements,” she said.

Analysts say such collaborative engagements are critical for improving efficiency in Tanzania’s maritime governance, particularly in ensuring that international shipping standards, regulatory compliance, and contractual obligations are well aligned with the country’s legal framework.

Strengthened coordination between the AG’s Office and TASAC is also expected to boost investor confidence in the maritime and shipping sectors, which play a vital role in trade facilitation.
