TEITI Releases 15th Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2022/2023

By The Respondent Reporter

Tanzania, as a member of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), continues to fulfill its international obligations by annually publishing reconciliation reports that compare government revenues with payments made by companies in the mining, oil, and natural gas sectors.

This was highlighted by Mr. Erick Ketagory, Acting Manager of the Transparency and Accountability Unit at the Tanzania Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (TEITI), during the 49th International Sabasaba Exhibition in Dar es Salaam.

He emphasized that, in compliance with these requirements, TEITI has publicly released its 15th report covering the 2022/2023 fiscal year.

The report was prepared by local experts for the second consecutive time, reflecting growing domestic capacity in transparency reporting.

The report reconciles payments from 47 companies operating in the mining, petroleum, and natural gas sectors with government revenue for the same fiscal year.

Furthermore, TEITI’s 15th report provides detailed disclosures aligned with EITI international standards and the requirements of the TEITA Act of 2015.

These include progress on public contract transparency, employment data within the extractive sector, beneficial ownership disclosures of extractive companies, and production statistics for minerals, oil, and natural gas.

The report also offers several recommendations aimed at improving governance and strengthening the extractive industries sector in Tanzania.
